• Do all Palm pilot models work with the PowerTrac unit?
Unfortunately NO. Due to the large variety of Palm devices available in the market and the various operating systems, only specific Palm models will work and have been tested to work successfully with the PowerTrac unit.
• What Palm pilot models have been tested to work properly with the PowerTrac unit?
The following is a list of Palm pilot devices that have been tested to work properly with the PowerTrac unit:
- Palm Handhelds
- Zire
- Zire 31
- Zire 72
- Treo 600
- Tungsten T3 & C
- Sony
Note: The PowerTrac product is designed to work with the Palm OS operating system. Presently, the Pocket PC operating system is not supported.
• My Palm reads “Connection Timeout”. What does this mean?
This means the Palm sent a request for information and did not receive any response from the PowerTrac device. The PowerTrac must be powered and have either a red or green LED lit. The Palm IR sensor should also be 3 to 24 inches away from the PowerTrac IR window and directly aimed at it. Communication in our facility has worked up to 10 ft.
• My Palm reads “Communication Problem: NAK Packet Received…”. What does this mean?
Most often this means your Palm is receiving data from more than one infrared (IR) source and does not understand the mixed data stream it is receiving. To avoid having this error, re-aim your Palm and reduce the distance between Palm and the PowerTrac.
• My Palm reads “Communication Problem: CRC Error! Wrong checksum has been calculated …” What does this mean?
This error is most often caused by an aiming problem. The Palm sent out a request for information and received some of the information but not all of it. The Palm must remain aimed at the PowerTrac IR Window until a completed confirmation is received or the blank spaces on the Palm display are filled.
• When I attempt a download data to my Palm I get an “error file 1605” message, why?
A 1605 error is a Palm OS error and means the file is corrupt and must be re-loaded. Attempt to reload the file from the PowerTrac unit.
• When I attempt a download into my Palm I get an “error file 1601” message, why?
A 1601 error is a Palm OS error and means your Palm is out of memory. In this case, memory needs to be freed and some Palm and files must be removed to proceed.
• I tapped “Download” on the Palm display and then moved the Palm away from the IR window. I tried the download again and now I can’t do a “Quick Look”. What do I do?
When the PowerTrac receives a request to upload data to the Palm, it sends the information without stopping or checking for whether the Palm is still there. If the Palm is moved away from the PowerTrac before the PowerTrac is finished with sending its data, you will have to wait until PowerTrac is finished with sending its data before communication can be established again. The time required to wait depends on the number of events stored in the PowerTrac. The PowerTrac uploads into the Palm at a rate of 10 events per second. If the unit has 2048 or 2726 events, it may take up to 5 minutes before communications can be established.
